Welcome to Kindergarten!
This is a very exciting time for your child and your family. My goal is to make sure every child in my class enjoys their first experience to school! I encourage all students to become lifetime learners, with a love for learning. Through the kindergarten experience, children will gain strong foundations in reading, writing, math, life skills, social skills, science, social studies, and many other areas.

Please inform me of how your child will be going home by the FIRST day of school. IF you ever need to make any adjustments to the typical pick up procedure, please put a note in your child’s Daily Folder that morning, email, or call me to let me know. If something comes up during the day you can always notify the front office 623-376-5000
Students can be dropped off in front of the school or you can walk your child to the kindergarten gate. Please say your goodbye’s there and then send them into the Kindergarten Playground.
Pick Up time will be in front of the office at 11:30
These procedures are in place because this is a very concerning time for all of us and I want to make sure each child gets home safe everyday.
Buses may be used by Kindergarteners as well. One of the Kindergarten teachers will walk all K bus riders to the buses and place them on their bus. Please check with the office or the district transportation office to find out your bus number and bus stop.
Behavior
My expectations for student behaviors are high. I feel that since this is a learning environment, it is imperative to teach the students how to be positive group members.
My discipline plan is for students to visually see reminders for their behavior, understand cause, effect, and consequences for behavior, and to keep you informed of what may be happening in the classroom.
Warnings will be given when behaviors are unsafe or disturbing the learning environment.
CLIP CHART: We also have a clip chart which allows children to start fresh every day on Green, if they are having a great day I will ask them to clip UP which means they move their clothes pin up the ladder to BLUE which means I am having a GREAT day. If children are having trouble listening or following directions they may be asked to clip down to YELLOW which means I need to impove my behavior. If the child is trying to improve their behavior, they have the opportunity to clip back up to Green or even Blue depending on their behavior.
The steps are as follows:
1) Verbal warning
2)Then a ” Yellow ticket”, stating the problem will be sent home and needs to be returned
with a signature if the problem is severe or the student continues to have a problem and can not fix it themselves.
Daily Folders
Please supply a folder preferably a plastic 2 pocket folder for you child. This folder will be used as a communication tool between the parent and the teacher. The left side of the folder is work that can be “left” at home. The right side stuff needs to be returned or stays in the folder. Things such as important papers to return to me and homework. If you have a note for me, PLEASE put it in this folder on the right side. I will use this folder to send home school work, notes from the school and from myself. Please check this folder daily.
Homework
There will be a weekly writing activity. Homework will be sent home on Friday and must be returned on the following Friday. Eventually, this will become our nightly sentences. This is a great way for your child to practice good homework practices! For more details please go to the Homework tab at the top.
Reading is also a VERY important part of daily homework. Students should be read to every night. Modeling reading is very important to children who are learning how to read. Book bags will be sent home 2nd semester, these are at the child’s reading level for the child to read to you. This should be a very special and positive routine between you and your child daily.
